If you run a small sole trade business with not very many expenses a basic spreadsheet to track your sales and expenses will suffice, click here for an excel template. You can also use Google sheets if you don’t have an excel subscription.
For a bigger business with more transactions or a VAT registered business, we would suggest using cloud bookkeeping software. For a simpler business we suggest using FreeAgent that currently comes free of charge with a Natwest or RBS business bank account. If your business is more complex, needs to link with different apps/software or you’d like management accounts we’d suggest using Xero.
