π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Parents: You Could Be Missing Out on Β£2,000 Per Year Per Child!
π§ Tax-Free Childcare
With summer holidays just around the corner, itβs a good time to remind families of the Tax-Free Childcare scheme β a government initiative that could subsidise the cost of childcare by up to Β£2,000 per child per year.
π Who Can Benefit?
If you have children under 12 (or under 17 if disabled) who attend a:
Nursery or preschool
After-school club
Holiday playscheme or summer camp
Registered childminder
β¦then Tax-Free Childcare could help reduce your costs.
π· How It Works
For every Β£8 you pay into your childcare account, the government adds Β£2 β giving you a 25% top-up.
You can receive up to Β£2,000 per child, per year
Or Β£4,000 per year if your child is disabled
Example:
If you pay Β£8,000 into the account over the year, the government will add Β£2,000, giving you Β£10,000 to spend on childcare. These funds can then be used to pay Ofsted-registered (or equivalent) childcare providers.
π Eligibility At a Glance
You can use Tax-Free Childcare if:
You and your partner (if applicable) each earn at least Β£167 per week, but less than Β£100,000 annually
Youβre not claiming Universal Credit, tax credits or using Childcare Vouchers
Your childcare provider is registered
π Important: If either parent has an adjusted net income over Β£100,000, the household isnβt eligible. Click this link to find out whether youβre eligible: gov.uk/tax-free-childcare
π§ Did You Know?
This can be claimed in addition to child benefit and the government has noted that many eligible families are not yet using the scheme.
If you know someone who has childcare costs, itβs worth making sure theyβre aware of this.
